How does the halacha view severe brain damage… if a baby is in a position of severe brain damage, is there a halachik leniency to withhold treatment if the baby gets sick for example pnemonia so that it wont suffer?
Halakhah does not discriminate against mentally defective people, especially not when life and death decisions are requested. Brain damage per se is not a legitimite halakhic reason to withhold treatments that would have given otherwise to a person with brain damage. Certainly there is no place for withholding antibiotics is case of pneumonia. when a situation of terminal illness occurs than the considerations change appropriately, but not different than for a person who has no brain damage.
