Hello,
I was recently referred your site and would love to hear back soon from someone on my question below.
Because of infertility issues my wife and I are forced to use donor sperm here in Canada. We have met with numerous doctors, clinics etc…After much testing we know this is our primary option other than adoption. My question to you guys is when choosing a donor does it matter if the person is Jewish. I know people are born into religion and the mother dictates this when a child is born. Therefore my intial reaction is it should not matter. What does halach say about choosing a sperm donor, does being Jewish matter in the selection? Do people typically tell a child they were born due to donor sperm according to Jewish laws? I am in the midst of reviewing donor sperm options from the government regulated donor banks in Canada and some profiles show Jewish..Please advise.
If the sperm donation is not anonyms it is preferred to use a Jewish donor according to the opinion of late Rabbi M. Feinstein.
