I am a third year medical student who attended your summer program 2 years ago. Am I allowed to circumsice a non-jew, and what would i do in a situation where the baby is jewish but not religous and only interested in a "medical" circumsicison before the eigth day?
one more question….they teach us to put ones hand on the patients shoulder while listening with a stethescope to the patients heart or lungs as "theraputic touch" without which it is claimed the patient will feel very uncomfortable. Is this allowed with a patient of the opposite gender?
You may preform a medical circumcision on a non-Jew as part of your medical training.
You may not perform a "medical" circumcision on a Jewish baby even on the eighth day.
I do not believe that there is any necessity to put your hand on the shoulder. One assumes that you have already "made the patient comfortable" before you examine him or her. However, if your mentor insists make sure that your hand is on a covered part of the patient's shoulder
