I have several questions about medicine on Shabbat. 1. Can a teenager with attention deficit disorder take Ritalin on Shabbat? Is this considered refua of
the medication Viagra for erectile dysfunction, if a doctor feels the prescription is warranted, are there any halakhic (e.g., kashrus, shabbos) or hashkafic issues that need to be considered?
1. I have never heard of any kashrut problems with Viagra.
2. According to R. Yehoshua Y. Neuwirth (author of Shemirat Shabbat ke-Hilkhata) and R. Shlomo Deichovsky (dayyan in the Supreme Rabbinical Court) there is no halakhic prohibition against medical treatment that enables an impotent patient to function on Shabbat.
