varicocele and its treatments

According to the UltraSound I have a 4 mm varicocele .. I am not married and therefore there isnt a question of infertility even though that is generally most patients with varicocele suffer from.. however, I have lots of pain which may be related to the varicocele (although Doctors weren't 100% sure the pain was from varicocele) but one doctor felt that it could be as part of his examination.

some questions:

a) Is it allowed to fix a varicocele by surgery for causes of pain ?
b) Is it allowed to fix a varicocele by embolization ?
c) Is either method more preferred halachically ?
d) I have not done a sperm count test as infertility is not an issue, however would it be allowed here to see the effects of the varicocele on the sperm just to see how it is effecting things in addition to the pain ?

e) Have you heard of the Gat-Goren method developed and practiced in Israel ? Do you guys recommend it ?
