שאלה:

I received your address from a friend in South Africa who mentioned that you had been there lecturing and who found you absolutely fascinating. I was wondering if I could inform you of my situation and if you would be prepared to advise me. I live in Jerusalem, in – – – ,and would be prepared to meet with you in person if need be.

I am twenty-four years old and got married when I was nineteen. I have two beautiful children, thank G-d: a boy and a girl. Before the first pregnancy, my periods were never regular but thank G-d I fell pregnant just five months after marriage and had a trouble-free pregnancy. I nursed for seven months and had my period every now and then until about one year after the birth. After that, I never got my period for periods of three to five months at a time.

My mother suggested I go see a doctor. He found that I wasn’t ovulating and prescribed Primolut N to bring on the periods and also Dexamitazon. The second month I did the same thing but then took Clomid to help me fall pregnant, which I did after the third month. Thank G-d, I again had a trouble-free pregnancy and gave birth to a healthy little girl. I nursed her until she was nine months old, with my period coming irregularly but still coming.

The same thing happened again after a few months. I didn’t get my period for five months and then started homeopathic treatment as I wasn’t so eager to fall pregnant then. I tried three different homeopathists, one of whom I am sure you have heard about (Rabbi – – – ) but nothing has helped. Last month I went back to the medical doctor and he said that the ovaries look fine but the lining was very thick. He also did a blood test and found that I still have milk from nursing, which I am taking Parilac for. I took Primolute N again, and after my period the lining was fine. After going back every second day for an ultrasound, however, we saw that I am not ovulating (I took Clomid as well). What’s more, I have a yeast infection and a urinary tract infection, which I am sure are from the pills because it happened after the first birth, too. I am planning to start all over again tomorrow with the Primolute N and the Clomid. My mother is very much into health and she is not crazy about Clomid and mentioned that you aren’t either (my parents live in South Africa but were away and so they missed your lectures). Please could you advise me on your opinion.

תשובה:

Thank you for your letter, which I read carefully.

You have described a condition which is not uncommon, and I am sure it can be handled by a qualified gynecologist. Jerusalem is full of good doctors who can help you.

There is no need for “virtual medicine,” which in general is not recommended.
