שאלה:

I had a young Sri Lankian newly wed couple come to see me the other day. The couple and got married about 3 weeks ago and the female was experiencing a itchy, burning sensation in her vagina. On examination she had what looked like the mixture of light trauma to the area and candiadisis (thrush). It became apparent that both were previously virgins and had had no training about sexual intimacy (no chosen or kallah lesson equivalent). They were engaging in relations daily and at times twice daily (no concept of niddah). It is well known that the initial entry of semen into the vagina causes a change in the vaginal micro-organisms and may induce overgrowth of candida albicans.

Would it be halachikally acceptable for me to suggest that the male use a condom for a while until the inflammation settles down AS well as that the coulple decrease there sexual activity?

What are the halachick issues with goyim and condoms. I feel that this issue has wiide spreading consequences – condoms are proven to decrease sexual transmitted disease such as HIV, candida, gonococcus, chlamydia ect. These diseases casuse much morbidity, infertility and even mortality in the case of HIV.

It is fair for me to accept that abstinance is rarely an option for these people and therefore suggest the use of condoms?

Please get back to me

תשובה:

1. There is no Halachic obligation to prevent a gentile from using a condom in his sexual behavior.

2. It is allowed to present to a gentile the option of using a condom when indicated medically.
