Dear Team

I am working in the accident and emergency department and therefore I am the doctor who first sees the patient – sometimes it is life threatning, sometimes children and sometimes trivial matters – but all work concerns people who have come to hospital by their own volition to seek medical care – from heeart attacks, to trauma, to sore toes and headaches.

תשובה:

1. Under the above circumstances you were allowed to continue your journey to the hospital with the Jewish driver.

2. The probability of shortening life by analgesia is much lower today than that 20 years ago.

3. An halachic discussion on these situations was made by the late Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach. See Nishmat Avraham, Vol. 2, Yore De’ah, sec. 339:4.
