An egg from a non-Jewish woman is fertilized in-vitro with the sperm of a Jewish man. The fertilized egg is inserted in the uterus of a Jewish woman (the sperm donor's halachic wife). The Jewish woman carries the embryo and a live child is born from this implanted embryo. Is this child Jewish or is conversion required? Does the child bear paternal relationship to the Jewish sperm donor? Does the child bear maternal relationship to the full term gestational carrier birth mother?
There are different opinions concerning your question. Therefore, practically the child has to go through a conversion procedure (Giyur L'chumrah), At the same time he may be considered a child of his Jewish genetic parents.
