According to halakha, irreversible cessation of breathing is the proof of death. Brain death is not enough (I think, but I am not sure) to prove death.
If this is true, wouldn’t cessation of breath cause vital organs (i.e., the heart or lungs) to become unsuitable for transplantation? Doesn’t putrefaction begin with cessation of breathing?
