Dr Avraham mentioned at the AOJS conference this past month that Rav Shlomo Zalman never took a position regarding IVF.
I noticed, however, that Rav Leizerson reports in the third volume of
Shulchan Shlomo, Arechei Refuah, an instance where the Rav not only
permitted it, but DEMANDED it of a husband. The story is contained in a
footnote on the page that mentions IVF.
I do not have Dr Avraham's EMAIL and wonder if you could forward this to
him.

Re the Rav zt"l I can only say what he told me (to a general question). The case mentioned may be a special situation and one cannot learn a generalization from a single case. In any case, the Rav zt"l (in Shulchan
Shlomo) says quite clearly there that there is NO obligation to undergo IVF only one to fulfill his wife's wishes.
