Thank you for your speedy reply to my inquiry.
Circumstances have changed. The local hospital does not require my congregant to donate his wife’s organs for medical research. They seek his permission to use her brain tissue (she is suffering from acute Alzheimer’s disease), after she passes away.
My question, therefore, is does halakha permit the autopsy of brain tissue?
Autopsy for any purpose other than saving the life of an actual patient now (as opposed to gaining knowledge for future use) is not permitted.
