May a 12 Step sponsor or fellow 12 step member use a cell phone to answer a phone call on fellow member on Shabbat if they believe there is no immediate danger of the person using the substance?
If they are certain that there is no immediate danger of the person using the substance, then they may not answer the call (it makes no difference whether a cell or ordinary phone is used). However if there is the slightest doubt, then the cellphone may be activated using the knuckle of a finger and, after the conversation, turned off in the same way.
