Under what conditions is it possible for a Cohen to become a doctor in the US, taking into account that he will necessarily be dissecting (probably non-Jewish) corpses? What should a Cohen ideally be careful to do/not do in such a situation? Please keep in mind that while this student is Orthodox, a suggestion that he change his desired path in life will be ignored.
The subject has been discussed extensively in the (Hebrew) publications of the Schlesinger Institute. For an English Responsum, see the answer published in JME : "Studying Medicine for a Cohen" (JME 3:1 p. 52, 1997)
